Harvest Launceston Community Farmers Market was absolutely thrilled to hear the news last night that they are the delicious. awards 2017 national award winner in the category of Outstanding Farmers’ Market. The awards were celebrated at QT rooftop bar at Russell St in Melbourne and attended by founding Harvest Board Member and Market Manager, Kim Hewitt, and former Market Manager, Christine West, alongside the country’s foodie paparazzi. Ms Hewitt described the night as a national foodie mecca of glitz, glam and excitement.
The competition was strong with other finalists representing Australia’s top farmers’ markets including Albany Farmers’ Market WA; SAGE Farmers’ Market Moruya NSW; and, Willunga Farmers’ Market SA. Ms Hewitt congratulated them as well as other Tasmanian producers at the awards, saying they are ‘showcasing the amazing produce this island has to offer’.
This is the second time Harvest has received this national award and the Board, management and producers are pleased that the award attests to the ongoing excellence and integrity of the five-year-old market. The award highlighted Harvest’s commitment to good governance and management, which was pertinent to the judges’ decision. Judge Jane Adams, Spokesperson, Australian Farmers’ Markets Association, noted,
“It continues to achieve the very highest standards in authenticity, quality, diversity and professional management. Year-round it’s a showcase of the very freshest Tasmanian farm and artisan produce.”
There are hundreds of Farmers’ Markets in Australia now and Harvest Launceston’s Board is humbled every week by the loyalty, commitment and support of our community and volunteers, as well as the fabulous, fresh and often innovative produce on offer every week.
They hope the community, volunteers, stallholders and City of Launceston are as proud of this award as they are and share in the ongoing success and growth of Harvest Launceston. Founding Board member, Jenny Edis said, ‘One of our greatest achievements is that many in the community call it ‘our market’’.
