Ferments and Films – 18th May, 2019

We’ve got quite a bit of news this weekend at Harvest Launceston. Firstly we are looking forward to welcoming our new stallholders The Wooden Ladle and Oldway Farm.  It will be the final week for Seven Springs Farm until Spring when they will return.

After being inspired by the screening of “Fermented” at BOFA yesterday, we have plenty of fermenters at the market this weekend with the Three Fermented Queens and our three sourdough bakeries; Manubread, Sandy’s Sourdough and Apiece Bakery. KimchiMe will be at the market for their monthly visit along with Tasman Sea Salt, who of course provides an integral ingredient to the process of Kimchi fermentation!

Brady’s Lookoutis back in 2019 with their mug library for their Mulled Cider at Harvest Launceston. The team at Brady’s Lookout estimates that over the time they served mulled cider at Harvest in 2018, they saved over 200 disposable cups from ending up in the rubbish!  A mug library is a stash of mugs that customers at the market can access as an alternative to plastic-lined takeaway coffee cups and plastic lids.  Rather than single use cups, you can reduce the plastic footprint at Harvest and use their china and pottery mug library to purchase your mulled cider.  You can either bring your own keep cup or ‘rent’ a mug from their library for a $2 refundable deposit.  Take back the mug at the end of your mulled cider experience and you receive your deposit back.
Real Beef, Southern Sky Cheese and Ritual Coffee will all be at the market this weekend but have rotated spots to try and solve some queueing issues, so please keep an eye out for them in their new positions.
Finally – THANK YOU to the 450 people who recently filled out a survey for our UTAS research project.  We really appreciate the time taken and we will look forward to using the information gained to make our community farmers’ market even better!
