Fruity Sunshine | January 9, 2021

Welcome to 2021 which also means an abundance of summer fruits  at the Harvest Launceston Community Farmers’ Market this Saturday. Margaret from Penna Valley Farm describes the apricots she grows as balls of trapped sunshine and for a few short weeks a year,  the sunshine captured in this delicious fruit is at the market.

It is the perfect Tasmanian way to start a fresh year with platters of berries, cherries and apricots served with fresh Elgaar Farm mascarpone and cream, or speciality gelato from Della Vale Gelato. Visit Penna Valley Farm for apricots, Bioberries for raspberries, Sheffield Berries for a selection of berries including their red currants, which are delicious scattered over salads or added to a cheese board. Southern producers Westerway Raspberry Farm have loaded their truck with berries ready for the market on Saturday as have Ferniehurst Cherries. Sally from Richmond Cherries and Pip from Jones River Co. will also be making the trip up north with the best freshest loads of fruit.  All Things Cherry from Rowella on the West Tamar will be at the market with fresh cherries and their delicious cherry tarts, jams and cordials.

Oldway Farm, Tamar Artisan Smallgoods and Mount Gnomon Farm are back from their break with great ideas for a summer barbeque and if mushrooms are your thing, take a look at the beautiful and colourful varieties of mushroom grown right here in the Tamar Valley by Jordan at Hillwood Fresh Food Co and the newest producers at the market, Mr Brown and Mr Towns in their mushroom garden.

Finally we welcome a newest stallholder, New Norfolk Distillery, with their selection of high quality rum for “rebellious spirits to share”.

The weather forecast is for a cracking Summer’s Saturday – mostly sunny with a maximum of 26º and a minimum of 14º.
