HARVEST MARKET 12th October 2019 – THIS WEEK

This week we are excited to offer our Harvest marketgoers crisp, fresh asparagus to add to their basket as we welcome the return of Newry Farm Asparagus and Headlam Farm Tasmanian Fresh Asparagus.

Newry Farm Asparagus are located on the South Esk river in Longford, where owner and producer Sue carefully hand picks and packs young green spears ready for harvest. Sue will also be bringing her fresh rhubarb this weekend….perfect for a rhubarb crumble with a side of organic double cream from Elgaar Farm.

Lucy and Philip from Headlam Farm Tasmanian Fresh Asparagus will be bringing a selection of green and purple asparagus direct from the renowned region of Pipers Brook. There is a difference in flavour between both varieties, with purple spears offering a nuttier, sweeter flavour compared to the grassy flavour of the green. When cooked, purple asparagus turns green, so to maintain the vibrant colour and add a touch of flair to your dish, serve it fresh or just slightly simmered.

Meander Pastured Free Range Eggs return this week with eggs from their happy chook farm at Mole Creek. Their eggs are ‘pastured free range’ meaning their hens are housed in mobile homes that are regularly moved around their 145 acre property onto fresh pasture for daytime foraging. From sun up to sun down the girls are free to roam wherever they choose, having unrestricted outdoor access to natural grass and native forest areas.

Come down to the Harvest Launceston Community Farmers’ Market this weekend to experience for yourself why so many choose to start their weekend at Harvest. Talk to the producers, take home a basket full of fresh produce and artisan treats, and go home knowing you’ve supported your local farmers.

See you at the market!
