This weekend we welcome a new stallholder to the Market, the Tasmanian Juice Press, with their selection of “junk-free, cold-pressed juices”. After developing a loyal following at markets in Southern Tassie, we can’t wait to taste them!
Tasmanian Natural Garlic and Tomatoes will be returning this weekend with a good selection of tomato seedlings, as well as chillies, capsicums, eggplants and other seedlings. They will also have globe artichokes and rhubarb.
We spoke to Annette from TNGT about the upcoming garlic season and here’s what she had to say:
“We are right into fresh, aromatic spring green garlic season. In my view, we are just entering the best time of year for garlic. Green garlic is light, sweet and juicy with no waste, as you eat the whole plant. The top of the plant is a mild garlic flavour, gaining strength as you move towards the forming bulb. Try it in a stir fry, just like you would use leeks or spring onions. Green garlic makes a wonderful refreshing soup and a brilliant pesto. Chop and sprinkle over pizzas. For a brief time, you can even use the roots. We like to crispy fry them.
Many people are asking for garlic bulbs. Please be patient. Harvest season is coming up and they’re now only weeks away. Meanwhile, garlic scapes are just around the corner. A great time all round for garlic!”
– Annette Reed, TNGT
This weekend will mark the first market since the partial opening of the Tasmanian borders. Now more than ever it is vital that all market patrons remain vigilant whilst shopping at the market.
- Please practise social distancing at all times
- Sanitise your hands upon entry to the market and throughout your visit
- Use cashless payments where possible
- Keep your visit to the market short and sweet, to allow patrons to flow through the market
- Consider taking food away and having a picnic in the City Park
- Please stay home if you are unwell or have been in contact with someone who is unwell.
Thank you for working with us to keep our community safe and support our stallholders as we all welcome visitors back to our beautiful state.
