Rare Breed Lamb, Tomato Seedlings and (Almost) Daylight Savings – October 6, 2018

It’s the final market before daylight savings begins and that means incredible Summer produce is not far away.  It’s time to start thinking about planting your summer herbs and tomatoes.  Tasmanian Natural Garlic and Tomoatoes will have a huge variety of tomato seedlings, while Plants Direct will cover your seedling and herb needs.

If you’re entertaining, why not try this week’s recipe, Minted Roast Leg of Lamb on a Bed of Asparagus.  The new season asparagus from Headlam Farm is just delicious!  For dessert we would suggest a cherry pie from All Things Cherry with a dollop of fresh cream from Tasmania’s Westhaven or Elgaar Farm, or if you’re feeling really decadant, why not some award winning gelato from Della Valle!  Along with the lamb roasts, Mount Gnomon will also have beautiful rare breed lamb forequarter and loin chops this weekend.

Be sure to get your October beer stocks from Seven Sheds or if beer isn’t your flavour, how about some of Tassie’s best cider from Brady’s Lookout?  Our very own national award winning champions, Hazelbrae will be at the market with their unbelievable hazelnuts.  If you haven’t tried the chocolate coated ones yet, do yourself a favour!

Weather for this weekend is looking mostly sunny with some scattered cloud.  Ideal market weather at  6 – 18°C
