There are snags galore at Harvest Launceston Community Farmers’ Market this Saturday, so grab a string of sausages that will take your summer barbecue to the next level of deliciousness. And if snags are not your thing, then check in with our local speciality meat producers to find the perfect cut to celebrate all things Australian.
Our lamb, pork and beef producers care about their animals, tending them very often from birth, to paddock, to plate. Meet Guy Robertson and his piglets from Mount Gnomon Farm. Situated outside Penguin, the farm is always a hive of activity. There are cheeky piglets charging around, sows feeding and chickens scratching about in the garden. Further out live the cows and the sheep, all rare breeds, an on-site butchery and a paddock of 1,000 cider trees. Every Saturday morning come rain or shine, Guy drives an hour and a half from his farm to be ready and smiling for you at 08:30.
Ask Larry and Alison from Real Beef what to do with a certain cut of meat, or a new type of sausage. These farmers know how their animals are reared because they are the ones who care for them. Fork It Farm in the East Tamar Valley are at the market for their monthly visit with their range of artisanal charcuterie made on the farm.
Oldway Farm takes pride in bringing “family farmed food” to market which has been grown with love and care on their farm on the West Tamar. Their range of beef and pork is expanding and it is this pork that TASG uses to make their bacon, for which there are not enough superlatives.
Hazelbrae Hazelnuts are not just about the nuts, but are also now producing lamb that will delight the family and together with all our meat producers, play an important role in preserving heritage breeds and ensuring the ongoing diversity of animal husbandry in Tasmania.
The weather on Saturday is mostly sunny with a minimum of 15° and a maximum of 27°.
