Our Tamar Valley-based business is exploring the potential and uses of Biochar since 2007. Today we are producing biochar not only for use on our own land, but FRANK’S CHAR branded products are also available through leading Garden Centres and local Markets. As a great meeting place, Harvest Launceston provides the opportunity for a face-to-face discussion and for Frank to answer your questions and exchange ideas.
FRANK’S CHAR is 100% Tasmanian made from various forms of “unloved biomass” such as annual pruning material from our own hazelnut orchard and neighbouring vineyards.
The woody material that would otherwise be unused and wasted is turned into a valuable resource. Liquid manure is used to create the optimal nutrient enriched Biochar ready for use as a soil amendment and odourless fertiliser – produced in our revolutionary Tasmanian-built KON-TIKI-TAS Deep Cone Kiln. This flame curtain process allows for minimising polluting air emissions and creates a fine-grained, highly porous charcoal that helps soils retain nutrients and water.
Our Biochar has been analysed by Eurofins Umwelt Ost GmbH in accordance with European Biochar Certificate guidelines and the test reports are showing accredited results according to the European Biochar regulations and can be provided on request
