Seven Springs Farm, a part of the Harvest Launceston Community for many years, will be taking a break from the weekly farmers’ market from July 2021.
Wouter and Elyse have been passionate supporters of the market growing organic vegetables on their farm at Lorinna. Wouter started ‘deDoederij‘, one of Belgium’s first Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farms, in 2010 and passed it on in 2013 when he and Elyse moved back to Australia. Elyse was born in Lorinna and sustainability has always been embedded in her way of life.
As testimony to their ongoing commitment to renewable, organic practices and a long-standing family tradition of growing vegetables, Seven Springs Farm has gained a reputation for bringing an excellent variety of heirloom vegetables and seedlings to the market each week. To build on this, Wouter says he needs some time at home on the farm. He has some exciting plans to renew and upgrade infrastructure and is planning to return to the Harvest market in August next year.
For the next 12 months, Wouter will be focusing on building new farm infrastructure to help sequester more carbon in both the buildings and land. This will set the farm up for a future of land regeneration, sustainability and a long term legacy that puts them at the heart of a positive future for the local food movement in Tasmania.
In the meantime Seven Springs vegetables boxes will still be available to locals. Please visit Seven Springs Farm for further information.
Stallholders at Harvest this week include Della Valle Gelato for their monthly visit during winter, KimchiMe, Derwent Distillery and Metz’s Pet Munchies Treats. To keep the winter chill at bay, head to Seven Sheds to try some mulled mead and take home a spice mix, or a bag of tea leaves from The Tea Equation. Red Cow Organics will be at the market with their fresh milk.
