Summer is officially here and the market feels alive because of it. Seven Springs Farm are back this week which means the full energy of the season is settling in. Westerway Berry Farm are also kicking off which is always a milestone moment. Summer has arrived in earnest.
Peonies have finished their run for the year, but the lineup more than makes up for it. Derwent Distillery, Hop Valley Herb Farm, Tassie Hemp, Tamar Valley Walnuts, Lenah Game, and Two Metres Tall are all in for their monthly visit. Mt. Gnomon are with us this week and again next week with hams. That is a big deal and another true harbinger of the season.
We have a gaggle of national journos wandering through the market on Saturday, brought in by Tourism Tasmania. Northern Tas is very much having its moment, and Harvest is right at the centre of it. If you see media crews floating around, give them a smile and a slice of what makes this place special.
Our second Christmas feast menu has gone out in the mailer. Five new recipes that take the thinking out of Christmas catering for you. Consider it our small seasonal gift.
On the produce front things look exceptional. Tomatoes, cucumbers, peas, broad beans, onions, basil, radicchio, artichokes, bitter greens and zucchini are all prime. Stonefruits have had a slow start but are coming on soon. The same goes for berries and cherries. We also have confirmed start dates next week for some berries, and the following week for cherries and more berries again.
As always, a heartfelt thank you to our stallholders, to our volunteers, and to everyone who comes through the gates each week. You keep this market thriving and we appreciate it every single Saturday.
