HARVEST MARKET 5th Oct 2019 – THIS WEEK

This week at Harvest, Plants Direct will be bringing a range of tubed vegetable seedlings including tomatoes, lettuce, rocket, spinach, cucumbers, zucchini, shallots, sweet corn, pumpkin, silverbeet and peas. The weather is warming up and its a perfect time of year to get your vegetable garden in order. According to local lore, if you want to successfully grow tomatoes you must plant them on the one and only ‘Tomato Planting’ day of the year – otherwise known as ‘The Royal Launceston Show Day’, this year falling on the 10th October. That’s next week!

Potatoes, potatoes, potatoes! If you haven’t tried Erinvale Farm Potatoes you haven’t yet lived. Their golden, creamy nuggets of potato deliciousness are a food lovers delight. This week Wayne will be adding Pink Eye and Bismark varieties to his offering. Once known as Prince Bismark, these potatoes are excellent for boiling as an immature potato and suitable for chipping when mature. Pink Eyes are an all-rounder potato that are best used for salads, boiling, steaming and baking.

Have you heard that Harvest have welcomed two new egg producers to the market? Tamar Valley Pastured Eggs and Meander Pastured Free Range Eggs are alternating fortnightly and bringing you farm fresh eggs direct from their happy hens. Don’t go home without a dozen of your own.

Iron House Brewery are back at Harvest with a carefully curated selection of craft beer, wine, grape vodka, whisky and gin. Direct from their distillery and brewery on the East Coast, their beverages are sure to get you in a relaxed coastal kind of mood – perfect for the school holidays!

Mount Gnomon Farm have their rare breed Shropshire lamb available at Harvest including leg roasts, loin, forequarter chops, ribs and shanks. This is an old fashioned breed that Mt Gnomon imported back to Tasmania for its sweet and juicy meat. With stocks limited over the next couple of months you’ll have to be quick!

Get your micro greens, micro herbs and micro salads from Huski Greens this weekend knowing they are organically grown with love by locals, for locals.

You’ll need to bring an extra bag to take home your haul of market goodies this weekend!
